Silly Season

That’s right, it’s Christmas time again. A time when shoppers come out in droves to find the perfect gift for family and friends, spending endless hours, often ripping their hair out in the process, amongst other hurried consumers in their search. Fortunately Christmas comes smack in the middle of summer here, so my thoughts of Christmas came many months back in the cold of winter, leading me on an early shopping hunt and purchasing frenzy. Knowing gleefully that all my presents were purchased and carefully hidden, I then turned my thoughts to decorating the Christmas tree. Decorating the tree is quite a tradition in the Kloss household, with my mother spending hours winding lights up and down each branch to produce an electrifying display of wattage. So, in true Kloss tradition, last year I purchased a small, synthetic, four foot tree and proceeded to string 700 lights upon that tree. I thought that was a rather amazing feat, until Jason decided to top off my talents this year by winding 1000 lights onto the same four foot tree. While it provides a nice ambiance by which we can read at night without the need for additional overhead lighting, I’m not sure the poor synthetic branches will last the season of weight. Genesis, our power provider, however, will probably be jumping with joy in the ability to purchase a few extra gifts for their family and friends this season due to our increased energy expenditure. Oh well, it is the season for giving.
